The automated external defibrillation (AED) class is designed to teach the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) when responding to a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the highest causes of death in occupational settings. A defibrillator is the only definitive treatment. AED's are used prior to the arrival of the EMS crews and are an integral component of the "chain of survival". The first few minutes of care are critical for someone who is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

The course includes:

  • The chain of survival
  • Integrating the use of an AED
  • Basic AED operations
  • Troubleshooting and other considerations.
